What We Fund

While we are deeply committed to helping individuals and families who are already facing difficult circumstances, a significant part of our work focuses on addressing the root causes of these problems. We are especially interested in supporting organizations and programs that intervene early and work upstream—before abuse, homelessness, educational failure, or other crises occur.

We believe that lasting change comes not only from responding to immediate needs, but from investing in prevention, strengthening families and communities, and creating opportunities that can alter the course of a person’s life before they reach a point of crisis. Our goal is to support nonprofits that are not simply treating the symptoms, but are tackling the underlying issues and building solutions that can prevent suffering and create long-term, meaningful impact.

We award grants to U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations whose work aligns with one or more of our core focus areas.

Children’s Health & Well-Being

Supporting programs that improve the physical, emotional, educational, and developmental well-being of children and youth.

This includes:

Educational resources
Trauma recovery programs
Hospital partnerships
Mental health initiatives
Youth development services
Transitional housing support

Animal Welfare & Rescue

Supporting organizations dedicated to protecting domestic animals and wildlife through:

Rescue operations
Rehabilitation programs
Veterinary care
Conservation efforts
Shelter support
Advocacy initiatives

Human Trafficking Prevention & Recovery

Supporting organizations that help survivors heal while working to prevent exploitation and abuse.

This includes:

Emergency shelter
Trauma-informed care
Survivor advocacy
Crisis response
Prevention education
Long-term recovery support

Jewish Community Support

Supporting Jewish organizations in the Greater Philadelphia region and select Israeli-based initiatives focused on:

Humanitarian aid
Emergency response
Education
Community resilience
Cultural preservation

Grant Types

Project-Based New Grants

Support for clearly defined initiatives with a focused mission, articulated goals, and identifiable outcomes for new grant partners.

Multi-Year Grants

Available for returning partners and organizations demonstrating strong mission alignment, measurable impact, and long-term sustainability.

Most multi-year partnerships are funded for up to three years.

Strategic Project Grants

Supporting major initiatives that address urgent needs, expand organizational capacity, or create significant community impact.

Examples may include:

Capital improvements
Infrastructure projects
Program expansion
Emergency response initiatives
Capacity-building efforts

Micro Grants

The foundation also supports smaller, community-centered funding opportunities designed to create immediate and practical impact.

Micro grants are intended to help organizations respond quickly to urgent needs, pilot new ideas, or strengthen community-based environments through flexible support.

Right Here Right Now Fund: The Right Here Right Now Fund was created to move small amounts of funding quickly toward projects that make a direct and visible difference in local communities.

Inspired by Trustee Ari Weiner's service in the Peace Corps who worked in Microfinance and partnered with kiva.org, the initiative supports practical, community-centered projects that improve youth environments, literacy access, trauma-informed spaces, and community support systems.

Grant Guidelines

The Weiner Family Foundation uses Submittable as our grant management platform. We encourage organizations to share not only their goals and programs, but also the stories and communities behind their work.

Typical Grant Sizes

Multi-year grants generally average approximately $18,000 annually
New grant partners are typically funded between $1,800–$10,000
Micro grant initiatives may support smaller rapid-response community projects up to $1800

Our goal is to support organizations at different stages of growth while building meaningful, long-term partnerships rooted in trust and shared impact.

Guidelines

Applicants must:

Be a registered 501(c)(3) public charity in good standing
Operate programs aligned with the foundation’s focus areas
Demonstrate measurable community impact

Please note that we do not provide funding for:

Individuals
For-profit organizations
Political campaigns, candidates, or partisan activities
Sectarian or religious activities
Faith-based organizations may apply for support for nonsectarian programs that serve the broader community.
